“Trusting in God: Embracing Freedom” examines some of the things that hold us back from truly accepting God into our lives. It looks at the beliefs, ideas, assumptions and misconceptions that it might be helpful for us to unload. It asks how can we move towards a religion and spirituality that are inspiring and vibrant and that free us to embrace our humanity to the full. It explores why the gospel of Jesus is still very Good News for everyone today.

Event Details

Our understanding of life and of creation constantly evolves. In response to that, our understanding of the Gospel and of Mystery has also to evolve. It must do so. We cannot freeze-frame our understanding of the mystery of God or the mystery of Jesus. Mystery demands exploration. Mystery demands ever new and ever fresh articulation.

Jesus came to tell us that God was to be found in all of life and that the fullness of our human life was to be found in God. We need to unbind our Christian faith so that we can tune in and can listen to the music in our own hearts and all around us we. This programme helps us to do that. Our lives would be so much different if only we could allow ourselves to let God in.

In gentle conversational style, it will address such issues as the relationship between science and religion; divisive thinking; the question of suffering; how to interpret the Bible; the meaning of the gospel and the relationship between consciousness and the Divine. The programme will also look at personal and social transformation today. It will try to frame a context for looking at complex moral questions and it will suggest some of the crucial issues for religion and contemporary society.

The two background contextual issues will always be those of trusting in God and embracing freedom. So, participants will be helped to frame these questions for themselves and to come to their own conclusions. Finally, although this programme is based upon a book written by the facilitator: “Unbinding Christian Faith: Free to Be”, but participants need not have read the book to take part.
