Gerard Hanley

Growing up in Galway, Gerard developed two passions, Faith and Football. He tried his hand at every sport available but began to focus on soccer as things got more serious. He made his debut for the Republic of Ireland in an U15 friendly against Holland and went on to make over 30 appearances for Irish underage teams. Gerard played for 7 seasons in the League of Ireland with Galway United, Mervue, Shelbourne and Dundalk. His Faith came alive in Secondary School after He encountered Christ through Confession and the Eucharist at a retreat in Knock. This turning point was the beginning of Gerard’s move towards ministry. Despite wrestling with his desires to progress his football career he could not ignore the Lord’s call to work in Ministry. In January 2015 he made the difficult decision to leave behind football and mov into full-time Youth Ministry. Having previously worked with An Tobar Nua and NET Ministries Gerard took up the role of Youth & Young Adult Ministry Coordinator at Emmaus in May 2018. In April of the same year, Gerard married his now wife Katie at Galway Cathedral.
